Hello everyone.
Someone told me links were allowed only after 50 posts.
How come nobody pointed that out to iamthatjoseph ?
Not that anyone would mind a meaningful link..

The difference was that iamthatjoseph did not use url tags. So the SE's will se the link as just text.

Are you saying one has to have 50 posts to put in their signature link, or that one has to have 50 posts to link some sites to click on?

if the sites are your own that you are putting links to, then the 50 post rule applies generally. If the sites are authority sites that are not your own, then the mods dont generally care.

I finally did get to read through the entire thing over a month after I initially ran across it and it was very informative. Thanks Mel.

What would be good is if there was a list of patents and by the list an indicator to identify if the patent has gone live into the Search Engine.

I am glad that there are those who find this information useful - might even entice me to expand the section a bit.

Hel Mel... I am always in when it comes to G patents ( I have a smaller collection of YaH/MSN as well)...
I used to collect the lot, but have recently tuck to search related stuff and some of the user personalization stuff as well... barely just finished going through that mass that cam out a while back there...
Anyways, just thought I'd mention it .. love the stuff... :0)

Ok, why are these posts a sticky??!?
Surely a 'beginners guide' or checklist would be better??!? Credit where credits due, search engine patents are important but surely...SEO forum it's not a mainstream topic?

Because when this thread was started two years ago it was very important.. And it still is from time to time as more patents are filed and / or discovered..

Fair enough 2 years ago. IMO not a sticky now - surely should something to attract beginners / your average browser??!?
How about we poll/vote for it

Re: Search engine related patents and research papers
G'day Mel,
I can see this post is from a while back, but I am getting an internal error when I attempt to view these pages. Are the pages still operating, have they moved or are they now just defunct??
Any help appreciated.
Thanks,
Dee.

For those that care about technical search stuff... and more specifically Patents - I posted a chat I had with Bill (Slawski) about taking them all with a grain of salt
