Post Cheers
Thanks for putting that togther - I do a lot of writing of articles and release press releases all the time. They have really helped with links and keywords. Had about 75% of your sites already through my own digging but found some crackin' ones through the list that will really help.
Cheers

Cheers Spider that is a great list.

When you do a press release do u link from the text in that to your pages, or do you just write a text only article, then submit, and gain one link back via whatever method the site offers?

I'm interested to know before writing the article up.

Dan, the great thing about press releases, is that if you submit it to the right places, it gets picked up by many many other places. It gives you a lot of links yes, but even better is that it can give you a ton of traffic as well.

Mike, nice going with the updating. That list is looking awesome, and I am quickly adding them all into my submitters.

Hi Dan,

Some sites will allow html in the body of the article but many don't and will strip any html code automatically. Plain text for the article is the most common option it seems.

The link most commonly comes from your resource section (credit) at the bottom of the article which (if html is not allowed) usually is a straight http:www(yoursite) and a mailto:(for your email address) - their page processor sorts the links out - a bit like the way the code is processed here.

I would have two versions - one straight text and one with html embellishments where I can get away with it :D

Thanks for the comments Will - I will chat with you later when I get back from shopping (dull) :D

By the way,

I would add that many submission sites require a valid email address in order to submit your article - for goodness sake don't supply your main email address - as you will get spam. :D

I am also researching useful guidelines as to content standards - which I will add to this thread.

The best advice I have read so far...

We realise your article is a blatent advertisement - please don't write it that way - it will be rejected!

Fair point!

The advice that you should read the guidelines before submitting that applies to submitting to directories also applies here.

I would also add that it could be useful to put such articles and press releases on your own/customers sites - as some submissions require a URL for the location of the article (presumably to put it in a frame) rather than submitting the article itself (this gives you total control over the presentation and the linking).

Having a site/area where your writing is available for download is also advisable as - thanks to Google and the engines following suit - there are "bots" out there looking for content and this is one area where you would encourage re-use of your content (with the proviso that it is re-produced in-tact including the links).

Got some more links to add-in later.

Mike

Wow, the tips keep on coming. thanks chaps.

Now for the doozy. Would anyone have a sample press release that they have submitted, to give us an idea?

I have a throwaway email address, that is a freebie, but is not considered a free-one. Like hotmail etc... so it bypasses those "no free email address" sites hehehe ;)

As Will set a precedent by linking to Mel's site in another thread, I am repeating the link here and have included it at the top of the thread so as to give an example.

Mel - please feel free to backedit this to remove the link, but I figured it was okay now the site is no longer password-protected.
