 DMOZ and other directories
If I ever manage to get my website listed with DMOZ is it true other directories often use DMOZ listings to build up their directories? As you know there are thousands of directories out there and me going to them one by one and asking for my website to be listed would take me months or years.

That's why we pay other people to do that work for us..

It's worth the pain. Getting listed in dmoz lists you in many other directories, it just takes time for that to happen. Since it can take up to a year for a site to be listed in dmoz and another year for all the other directories get the new listing, it takes a lot of time.

almost everything i read about dmoz the last few years and trying to get listed in that directory seems to be problematic; i am glad that I got my website listed years ago when the directory was fresher and newer and there were more editors around - seems like many directories and other sites were using the dmoz material for their listings, now of course the biggest plus is it gets you into the google directory I guess. I checked 'mexico' recently going to look into over 30-40 categories and so many of the categories are needing editors, almost everyone single one, not like before. it made me wonder who the active editors actually were - and yes years ago i did some editing there myself but didn't have time enough for it. I suspect that if someone wants to get listed there these days they become an editor themself....
I think it's still a highly valued directory-link and of course the value of that link grows with age.

It is tough & lengthy process to get listed on dmoz. But nothing to do!
Continue submitting to other high pr directories.

It took six months for me to get listed in DMOZ - probably depends on who the editors are and how busy each section is!
