I'm afraid it sounds disingenious. Especially under current Google conditions.

I think it is pure genius myself.

it's a damn good way to nail people with link farms, if you think about it, and consider who started it.

Is anyone around here going to give it a go?

I am too much of an amateur to think about it, only interested in SEO as a side effect of my job, but it could be a great oppotunity for a clean showdown between the pros and almost-pro in the "industry".

And William: is there something we should know aboout DarkBlue/SearchGuild? Maybe I am showing too much of my ignorance with the question.

Regards,

Nardus

Yes i am going for it, It will be great fun, I cannot find any reason why people think it as dangerous, Google has 1000 other was to identify link farms, Most of the link farms out there google already knows it but just they dont care unless those links damage their results too much,

I am entering the competition just today, BTW any one willing to help me rank, Please place the following code on your site,

<a href="http://www.toprankingcompany.com/nigritude-ultramarine/nigritude-ultramarine.htm">Nigritude Ultramarine</a>

Since no one here willing to go for it, Atleast you can help me win it, I have good strategies for link building for this site but if you can help it will be great,

thanks,
:D

Just for future referance, it is generally a good idea to let people get to know you before asking for stuff :P

If we know you already under another username, what is it?

I expect one of the ethicals will do his utmost to get that page banned. They know they can not compete, so they will cheat.

Tho the one who does will not like the end result of his actions. :)

No, they deserve about 20,000 webpages devoted to the true them in the top 5 for every one of their keywords :)

The consumer does have a right to know the truth about who they consider using after all :)

The idea of such a contest seems very ego-driven and maybe even dangerous considering what tactics people plan on using.

I'd be careful to identify myself in such a context as someone who thinks they can manipulate Google.

Why are people wasting their time - do they not have better things to do than hope they will come in at the top? It's not exactly an amazing prize either.

Waste of time.

Cheers

James

Web Site Tips
----------------
1) Research your keywords
2) Write your copy accordingly
3) Create a good web site structure
4) Give visitors a reason to visit - and return.
5) Place your keywords in your title
6) Place keywords in your copy
7) Get incoming links - from directories and relevant sites

However, you can have a successful web site but a successful business is a whole different ballgame.

Cheers

James

Sorry - WilliamC - I wasn't refering to you.

More to people who will waste a whole week optimising and tweaking their site, submitting to directories and gaining 'genuine' back links.

And how much oney has that week cost them only to be in with a chance of winning?

Cheers

James

It is not the matter of winning, It is the matter of enthusiastic spirit we get, This is just a way of gaining popularity among other SEO companies, AFAIK most of the top competent SEO companies are involved in one way or the other in these type of competitions, It just builds up spirit,
Ipod or Flat screen monitor doesnt matter it the popularity we gain from it, Our site gets about 50+ visitors for the past 3 days after we came to the top 15 position, So it is just a lot of fun 8) ,
