Post How Baidu (Chinese Search Engine) fire their employees.
Recently Baidu fired about 45 employees within 2 hours. One of the worker record the conversation between the HR people. Following is a sample:

Employee: Why do u ask me for this meeting?
Baidu HR: we are talking, talking about your dissatisfaction about your job
Employee: I don't have dissatisfaction about my job.
Baidu HR: Ok, you don't have dissatisfaction. But the Company decides you are unfit for your current position as Assistant Manager.
Employee: In what aspects am I unfit?
Baidu HR: I will tell your about that later. now I just want to tell you ...
Employee: If u don't tell me now...
Baidu HR: I will finish telling you the result first, then I will tell you why. is this a problem?
Employee: ok, no problem.
Baidu HR: your current position is Assistant Manager and your monthly salary is RMB 7,000 (about $860). The Company thinks you are unfit for this position and you need to have a good technical basis. So you will be re-assigned to the position of Technical Support. That is to say, from July the 1st, your job will be Technical Support and your monthly salary will be RMB 600 (about $75). are you notified with this decision?
Employee: What's the reason?
Baidu HR: your superior says you can't meet company's requirement to have your job done and to manage other Employees.
Employee: Can you be more specific?
Baidu HR: you can't achieve goals in time...
Employee: Do you have this on paper?
Baidu HR: Later you will be given something on paper. I am from HR department. I am doing my job. This decision is by your department head. I am just the messenger. If you have disagreement... you need to sign your name here.
Employee: I can't sign here. Why should I sign?
Baidu HR: You don't sign, which means you don't accept this result, right?
Employee: Of course, I won't accept this.
Baidu HR: ok, if you don't accept the Company leader's decision, the Company has the right to fire you. have you read this regulation?
Employee: No, I haven't.
Baidu HR: ok, u haven't... please just sign here.
Employee: no, how can i sign here? I haven't seen anything.
Baidu HR: that's beyond my job, ok u don't sign.
Employee: this is the same thing.
Baidu HR: it's about re-assigning you to another position?
Employee: Why am I re-assigned? In what aspect am I unfit for my current position?
Baidu HR: it's your superior's assessment.
Employee: Where is the assessment?
Baidu HR: it will be given to you later. now, it's to inform you about this result.
Employee: What result?
Baidu HR: it's that you are going to be re-assigned. your new position will be Technical Support and your salary turns from RMB 7,000 to RMB 600 per month. I am doing my job to inform you this. if you don't sign, there is no necessity for any more of our conversation. I am not your superior. Don't you have anything else in mind?
Employee: Nothing.
Baidu HR: So you are not signing this, are you?
Employee: No.
Baidu HR: not signing means you don't accept, right?
Employee: right. how can I accept such an insulting decision?
Baidu HR: uhmmmmm....
Employee: Who are you to have right to insult me?
Baidu HR: I am just doing....
(Door closed)

The above is what the company done with their employees.

Makes me think about how my former boss fired me. Quite a lot of similarities. Also had nothing on paper.

The only difference is that i sued him and made him pay big cash.

Interesting.
Is baidu a big company with a lot of employees? Not every employer is like Google I guess.

Hi solid ghost. You are bringing posts up that are over 6 months old. You are very much less likely to get an answer especially in that you are not adding any fresh content to the thread.

Yes, Baidu is a very big comapny in China, and it's search engine looks like a copy of google, but it has more user than google in China.

I don't get the 'problem' either ... if he was good enough for the job, they wouldn't fire him, would they !?!

You also don't appear to understand that an irrelevant "tail post" on a topic that started in 2006 and was last posted to in 2008 stands a good chance of getting you the chop from here.

Seems like perfectly legitimate way to fire/demote someone. If their manager found them technical unqualified and unable to meet deadlines, that's exactly what should happen. Of course, it's kinda silly that they would require you to sign anything to agree to it.
